英国文化媒介及体育管理局局长约维尔6月5日宣布，英国广播公司（BBC）将在至少10年内不会改变其资金来源方式。
约维尔在接爱《金融时报》的访问时称，现在每户每年交电视接收费160美元的方式并没什么不妥。而公司私有化也暂不可行。
但是，英国的保守党认为收费应该停止，而约维尔的讲话则是在否定他们还没来得及发表的意见。
英国工党政府称他们将在2004至2006年间检讨BBC的收费结构，看看是否能以另一种方式来“养活”BBC。但约维尔说BBC每年的电视收费收入达22亿英镑，所以预计10内都不用改变。
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is very unlikely to see any dramatic change to its funding structure for at least the next decade, Culture Media and Sport Secretary Tessa Jowell said on Wednesday.
Jowell said in an interview with the Financial Times the chance of a significant change to current funding -- provided overwhelmingly by a $160 annual license fee paid by all households with a television -- "is anywhere between improbable to impossible."
Privatization of the corporation is also not an option, she told the newspaper.
Opposition Conservatives, who are eager to scrap the license fee, slammed Jowell's comments for pre-empting what they said should be an open-minded review of funding.
Britain's Labour government has said it will conduct a full review the BBC's funding structures between 2004 and 2006, looking at alternative financing methods such as privatization or individual subscriptions.
But Jowell's comments suggest the license fee system, which raises around $3.36 billion a year for the BBC, will remain for at least a decade beyond the review.
